A tailgunner aboard a B-29 that crashed after its first mission over enemy territory, Cpl. Milton Jacobs, of 11609 Hopkins Avenue, was killed on May 4, 1945, the date he previously was reported missing. The accident occurred 15 miles from the Superfortress’ home base on Iwo Jima. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Jacobs, Cpl. Jacobs, 23, was a graduate of East Tech High School and a former student at Ohio State University. He worked for the Picker X-Ray Corp. before entering service in November, 1943, and was sent overseas in March 1945. In addition to his parents, Cpl. Jacobs was survived by a brother, Lester.

Cpl. Jacobs is listed on the Honolulu, Hawaii, Memorial. (Honolulu Memorial is located within the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in an extinct volcano near the center of the city).
